Atra Shield – Atrazine 50% WP
Atra Shield is a herbicide manufactured by MaxxGro Agrology Limited, containing Atrazine 50% as a wettable powder (WP) formulation. It is used for the control of grassy and broad-leaved weeds in maize, including Trianthema monogyna, Digera arvensis, Echinochloa spp., Eleusine spp., Xanthium strumarium, Brachiaria sp., Digitaria sp., Amaranthus viridis, Cleome viscosa and Polygonum spp. Atrazine acts as a triazine herbicide that is absorbed primarily through plant roots and translocated to the leaves, where it inhibits photosynthesis.
Atrazine 50% WP is also registered for weed control in sugarcane. As a wettable powder, Atra Shield is mixed with water before spray application. The product is intended for use strictly as per approved crop, weed, dose and timing recommendations on the product label.

- Formulated as a Wettable Powder (WP)
- Herbicide category product for weed management
- Registered use in maize and sugarcane
- Controls a broad spectrum of grassy and broad-leaved weeds
- Root-absorbed, systemic mode of action
Atrazine is a triazine-group herbicide that acts as a photosynthesis inhibitor. It is absorbed mainly through the roots of germinating weeds and translocated upward to the leaves, where it binds to the D1 protein of Photosystem II, blocking electron transport in the photosynthetic pathway. This disrupts the plant’s ability to produce energy, leading to chlorosis and death of susceptible weeds. Atrazine falls under HRAC/WSSA Group 5 (Photosystem II inhibitors).
Atra Shield (Atrazine 50% WP) is applied as a spray after dilution in the recommended volume of water, using standard knapsack or boom sprayers, ensuring uniform coverage of the soil surface and emerging weeds in the target crop. Application should follow the timing, crop stage and weed-stage recommendations specified on the approved product label.
Safety & Precautions
- Use strictly as per the directions on the approved product label
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment during mixing and spraying
- Avoid spray drift onto sensitive or non-target crops
- Keep out of reach of children and away from food, feed, and water sources
- Store in a cool, dry place in original packaging
